3rd March 2020
It was business as usual in the tech suite tonight as we carried on with new car development, removing the lacquer from Basil and pit practice.
However, before we dive straight in with an account of tonight's activities, we are going to re-wind the blog back to Sunday 1st March when Becksy, Luke, Phoebe, Immy and Immy's dad Angus headed back to Darley Moor to continue helping with their efforts to get the track ready for the new season.
Following all the storms we have been having recently, this week, Darley Moor tasked us with picking up the twigs, branches, and what sometimes felt like mini trees, from the grass verges by the track. Despite how wet, slippy and muddy it was, amazingly (...especially when noting how clumsy some of us in CAUC are *Cough* Becksy & Luke *Cough*) everyone managed to stay on their feet....unfortunately however, we didn't stay this clean!!!
Having climbed into the truck to crush the sticks, Phebs took the opportunity to catch a quick 5 minute rest break; using the branches as a make shift bench.....engineering at it's finest eh?!
Thank goodness we had Immy's dad to help us break up the larger branches/trees. We clearly hadn't eaten enough weetabix on Sunday morning!!!
3 truck loads of branches later - it was time to call it a day and head home!
Now, back to tonight - Tuesday 4th March.
The evening kick started with our usual team briefing and delegation of the evening's job list. As it was Jeff's birthday (computer wizard, and volunteer at CAUC) last week whilst he was on holiday, we took the opportunity to celebrate his birthday tonight with birthday cake all round....and some extra chocolately treats from Mr G, who managed to come in again and see us all!!
Jobs assigned - it was time to get cracking!!
For Lara, Eleanor and Immy, this meant bringing Basil in from the trailer, flipping him over and carrying on with removing the lacquer. Hopefully it won't be long until he'll be ready for his fresh coat.
Having completed the Waitrose Community Fund application last week, tonight Alice moved onto Asda and Tesco - filling out their respective application forms for community funds and grants.
With Alice tasked with researching community funds, Rachel and Jess were busy planning a potential Easter Raffle - writing letters to see whether any companies would be interested in donating raffle prizes.
Moving away from fundraising, Katy, Bethan and Meg were working hard to code the Raspberry Pi, despite all the network issues they were facing.
Once again, Rachel could be found working with Richard on OpenFoam trying to finalise the designs for our new car. This week though, they had a new recruit in the form of Jodie, who sat with them both to learn everything there is to know about the software from our experts Rachel and Richard!!
Meanwhile the rest of the team spent their evening with Dylan, brushing off the 'pit practice' cobwebs.
So once again - another busy evening in the tech suite.....but we wouldn't have it any other way!
