Blue Bug

Blue Bug was the first car that was built by CAUC at Sandbach High School.

Emily knew of a local engineer (Clive Sleath) who had helped out on the TV programme - Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge and wrote him a letter asking him to help out.  He replied and was delighted to help out, he had some great ideas and advice for us and soon got stuck in to helping us to design and build the first car. The frame for the Blue Bug ( as it was later to be called) was made from the old wall bars which had just been removed from the gym. It was shaped and held together with threaded bar until we could get it welded. Pupils were taught how to use tools and techniques. Skills such as wheel building, use of aero-ply and general fabrication techniques were taught.
