New year....New decade....same old CAUC!!!

With Christmas festivities, school holidays and the F1 in schools North West Regional Heats, we've realised that it's been over a month since our last blog post?! (..where has the time gone?!) So to catch you up on the last few weeks - here's what we got up too.....

If you have followed our blog for awhile, you are probably already aware that a number of CAUC members are also involved in the F1 in Schools competition - competing as Nebula Racing and Sigma Racing. On the 9th January, they headed to Bolton University for the Northwest Regional Heat. In order to help them prepare for the competition, when we returned back to school in January, we took a small break from Greenpower to lend a hand to both Nebula and Sigma Racing.

Meg and Eleanor were busy helping to solder the LEDs together for one of the pit displays, whilst Smurf was helping Nebula members Phebs and Cerys assemble their pit boards.

Having spent many an hour in the tech suite working extremely hard to prepare, we are over the moon to announce both teams won their respective class divisions - with Nebula Racing becoming Professional Class North West Champs and Sigma Racing being crowned Development North West Champs. As a result of their success, both teams will be heading to the National Finals in April. We'll be sure to keep you updated on their progress.

In addition to helping with F1, we also took the opportunity to get in a quick pit practise session before spending the rest of the evening team building!

Now...back to tonight!! We kick started the evening with a quick chat on what races we want to attend in the upcoming season - attempting to finalise a few dates for the team diary.

This week, we are back on track working hard on Basil. Currently, we are stripping the lacquer off with acetone, to eventually give him a new and improved lacquer paint job.

This is our  F1 in schools teams getting ready for their next race, the National Championships! They are learning how to use the linex computer to design their pit displays on CAD (Computer Aided Design). Hopefully, it won't be long until they can put their new-found CAD skills to use for CAUC!!!!

A few other team members are reading the regulations for the upcoming races so we are aware of all the 2020 changes....we certainly can't wait for the season to start!!

We are currently also knee deep in new car designs. Tonight, we had fun mocking up the cock-pit and discussing where to place the batteries. We got a number of drivers to test it out....including our "oldest driver" Becksy....who may, or may not have got stuck when trying to get out!!! :P

So a busy couple of weeks. Wonder what we'll be getting up to next week?!
