Virtual Car Team Week 30: Fun on zoom with videos, buck updates and a competitive scavenger hunt....

To switch things up a little, this week, we kick started the call by watching our 2019 Season Video to re-live some of our favourite memories from last year! In some respects, this was a very bitter sweet activity. As whilst it reminded us of how much fun we had, it also made us miss racing that little bit more! We've definitely got our fingers (...and toes!) crossed that we'll be able to head back to a track at some point in 2021!!

Having reminisced about last season...(including remembering just how many times both cars decided to break), we turned our focus back to 2020/21 and the new car. This week, that involved heading out to Richard and Jane's garage to see the progress made on the buck.

First up, Richard talked through how useful the Pattern Coat Primer has been in achieving a smooth surface finish; explaining how the grey is where he's painted and the black showing areas that have been sanded.  The differences in colour helps highlight the imperfections in the surface whilst also ensuring that you don't sand too far down, revealing the foam underneath.

Following a slight accident, we've also realised just how soft and easy it is to damage the foam used. Currently, we have three small dents in the buck (shown by the red circle on the picture below) after Richard accidently dropped a sanding wooden block onto it. Therefore, when we are finally able to meet in person and can start the lay-up process, we are going to have to be extremely careful not to be too heavy handed...especially given all Richard's efforts to ensure a smooth surface.

Happy with the progress, we came back inside to continue with the car building discussions. Although we've still got a little more work to do on the buck, we had a quick conversation on the next stage of the process; including making the MDF shuttering and the need to refer back to our Solid Edge Drawings to finally confirm which areas of the car will need to be made in a separate mold.

Seeing progress on the buck never gets old. It's certainly very exciting seeing our design come to life!

With car chats over for the evening, it was time for a scavenger hunt. Just like last week, we split the team into two break out rooms; one forming Team Dylan and the other Team Basil. Cate and Lil were sent a list of clues and prompts for 30 common household items. Each team had 20 minutes to guess and locate the items. As only one person was allowed to be away from the computer at a time, working together to establish who should retrieve which item was the key to success!!

With only 30 seconds to spare - both teams had managed to retrieve all items on the list. To check that there was no cheating...or slight bending of the rules, members of each team had to prove they'd found an item by showing it on screen! This proved to be a genius idea when Immy, from Team Dylan, picked up her cat from the bed in answer to 'something with legs'. Needless to say, Immy's cat stole the show and was rather cute!!

With both teams retrieving all 30 items - it came down to the number of pages in the 'largest book you own' to decide a winner - with Team Dylan narrowly taking the win with their book of choice....a dictionary.

Toilet Roll, Grandad's chest board, Duster, Baby Photos, Monopoly, DVDs, Cricket helmet, Wellington Boots, medals, flour, tin of beans, hand sanitiser and post.....you name it, we had it!

Who would have thought you could have so much fun with the items found around your house!!

This brings us to the end of another productive zoom call! Who knows what we'll get up to next week?!!!

See you then!
