Virtual Car Team Week 12: Livery Designs, Solid Edge and CAUC Lockdown Quiz Night....what better way to spend International Women in Engineering Day (INWED!)

This week we kick started the meeting with a big 'ole catch up putting the world to rights!! As usual, Covid-19 seemed to dominate the discussions; with Jodie and Cerys filling the team in on a typical school day with the new social distancing measures before moving on to discuss what future races may or may not look like should they be able to go ahead in September. Similarly, we also thought about the practicalities of potentially building our new car - and whether this could be done both safely and in accordance with government advice.

During the chat, it was lovely to see Emma (a CAUC alumni), who's currently reading Industrial Design & Technology at Loughborough University and is about to embark on an Internship with a Japanese Design Company. Hearing about all the exciting experiences our previous team members get involved in is always extremely inspiring - especially for the younger generation coming through who are able to see just what brilliant opportunities and career paths are out there for them to grasp with both hands.

Lil also treated the team to another instalment of #CAUCPetsOnZoom, showing us how Ovi, Dougie and Flur (her pet ducklings) have been getting on. We couldn't quite believe just how much they've grown since last time.

Moving on, Mr G shared his own little lockdown project involving a Lego technician kit. To improve his knowledge on Solid Edge, whilst physically constructing the model, he's also been drawing each component on the software to build the model virtually!!

Very Impressive!!!

Realising that we'd already been on the call for 40 minutes, to which the majority of this time had been spent chatting, we thought we better get cracking on some design work for the new car!!

So it was over to Cate to present her latest livery designs.

Having taken into consideration all our ideas from last week's discussion, Cate had prepared a couple of options for us to have a look at and choose our preferences. Once again, she'd done a sterling job.

Without giving too much away, we wondered whether some of the decisions being made on the livery would have been easier if we knew how the car was going to be sectioned off. Therefore, without further ado, we headed back onto Solid Edge.

In order to establish how we'd section the car, we discussed which parts of the car we needed access to and thus what sections of the bodywork would need to be easily removed. This subsequently led onto further conversations on the fabrication methods for these areas.

Sufficient progress made on the car - it was time to get ready for Week 8 of the CAUC Lockdown Quiz Night - expertly lead by this week's quiz master, Cerys!

Cerys provided us with a pretty diverse quiz, including rounds on Guess the F1 Driver, Artist by their Album Cover, Celebrity from their hair line, Company Logo and my personal favourite Guess the star sign!

With only the star sign round being multiple choice, it truly was a test of our knowledge (....or lack of knowledge in some cases!!!).

However, taking top spot for the first time was Luke, closely followed by Elf and Katy!

After adding the scores from Week 8 to our weekly leaderboard...1st, 2nd and 3rd remain unchanged! I wonder whether anyone can knock Cate off top spot next week?!!

This brings us to the end of another virtual car team....time really does fly when you are having fun!!!

All that remains to be said now is Happy INWED day and we shall see you next week for more lockdown fun - CAUC style!
