Virtual Car Team Week 10: Tea chats, cockpit alterations, elastic band cars and an embarrassing round of 'guess the team member from their baby photo'!
Whilst waiting for the last couple of team members to join the call, we had ourselves a little catch-up. Checking in to see how everyone was doing, asking whether the year 10's were ready to go back to school and more importantly, determining 'how many cups of tea are you drinking during lockdown?' Cerys was the clear winner, managing to consume a very impressive 7 to 8 cups a day!!!!!
(...Check out the commitment of Richard & Jane to these calls. This week, they started the session off in the car on their way back home!!!!)
Having successfully shared our love of tea and debated whether Cerys' tally was normal or not (....I guess you won't be surprised to hear that top of our race day equipment list is in fact our beloved team kettle!! :D) we returned to the Greenpower Elastic Band Competition with two more team members giving it a go.
First up was Lara - proudly showing off her creation. Unfortunately the glue hadn't dried fully so has been unable to test it. Next it was over to Rachel, who treated us to a live demonstration of her attempts. To quote Rachel: ''It is very temperamental but when it's in a good mood, it goes about a metre''. Luckily for us - it decided to work on the 2nd attempt - shooting off at considerable speed before veering towards the right and crashing into a wall.
Afterwards, we got ready to participate in week 5 of the CAUC quiz night, hosted this week by Becksy!
The quiz started with all the usual rounds; 'How Many...', 'Guess the Celebrity from their eyes', 'Which is oldest / founded first' and 'Guess the country from the flag'. However, for the final round, Becksy enlisted the help of our parents - who happily obliged to send over baby photos for a game of 'which team member is this?'
Here's an example - any guesses on which member of CAUC this is?!
After some initial embarrassment and cries of 'oh no - I hope my parents didn't send one', the team began to get better at recognising one another. That's everyone except for Phebs, who rather hilariously failed to recognise her own baby photo!!!!!
Quiz over - it was time to share scores. With over 1000 points ahead, Lil was our clear winner!
Following week 5's results, the leader boards are as follows:
For the last section of the meeting, we returned to Solid Edge to continue working on the new car. Despite the highly entertaining experiment of measuring limbs from last week - we remain unable to move past the concern over our cockpit size and indeed whether it is a little in-practical. Therefore having made some modifications to make the cockpit slightly larger, we looked over the latest version of the design before discussing the pros & cons.
The next task, will be to run both designs in OpenFoam to see how much of an impact our slightly larger cockpit has on the overall aero performance of the car.
Hopefully by next week we will have some simulation results to discuss.....so see you then!!!
