Virtual Car Team Week 15: Greenpower Podium Tally, getting ready to start making the buck, another F1 themed quiz night and PIZZAAAA is all in a night's work for CAUC!!

This week, we kick started the meeting by having a look at a graph shared in the Greenpower Community Page by Trevor Cook from The Pod Movement. It was a really interesting graphic that showed the total number of podiums each team had achieved since 2011. Watching the animation was made all the more entertaining by Richard's expert commentary:  "wait for 2012 when we built Dougal, ready, woooooahh. Then look, here comes Dylan Woooahhh".

Thanks to Trevor for putting it together and sharing!

Keeping on the theme of graphics shared by other members of the Greenpower Community, next up we had a look at a meme created by Team Bird Racing which matched Greenpower Teams with F1 teams. We were pretty happy to be given Red Bull Racing that's for sure!!

Finally, to finish our weekly catch up, Mr G shared with us the latest additions to the tech suite. Say hello to our new Denford CNC lathe and router.

After our little catch up, it was time to head back onto Solid Edge to continue working on the new car. Following on from last week - we continued to work out how we would make the buck. When making the mould of previous cars, we have incorporated a wooden frame structure to ensure that the mould is lifted off the ground, maintains the right shape and does not distort.

See photo below of Dylan's mould framework:

The new car will require similar and therefore we used Solid Edge to draw out the parts needed to create this framework. Having drawn the individual pieces, we proceeded to play a game of Tetris - laying them in a square that fits Richard's router to determine how many pieces of MDF will be needed.

Moving on from Tetris, Richard showed the team how you go from the Solid Edge Drawing to something that can be cut out on the router. By exporting the file out of Solid Edge as an stl. file, we are able to open the drawing in Blender (a programme often used for animation and 3D graphics.) With a specific add-on, it has allowed us to generate individual cutting parts that can then be sent to the router.

All buck design and computer programme out - it was time for Week 11 of CAUC Quiz Night. The Reader sisters definitely had the right idea - ordering a Dominoes that arrived for the start of the quiz.....needless to say, we were all a little jealous.

With Elf, another F1 superfan hosting the quiz, it really was no surprise that once again, the questions were predominately centred around Formula 1....with rounds on Team Mate Mash Up, Who said that on the radio, name the track and name the F1 support staff.

Much to the relief of the non F1 fans (or F1 noobs as Elf called us!), she also included a 'Guess the CAUC team member round' to give us the opportunity to claw back some much needed points!!!!

Scores counted, it was Cerys who took top of the podium and consequently joins Cate in 1st place on our 'CAUC Lockdown Quiz Night Leader board!'
